Professors Peter R. Andreana and Xuefei Huang will be co-chairs for the 2021 Gordon Research Conference on Carbohydrates in Mount Snow, Dover, VT.

April 2

Professor Andreana, Ms. Nasim Esmati (grad student) and Krishnakant Patel (grad student) presented their work at the 253rd ACS National Meeting in San Francisco, CA. Prof. Andreana spoke on the STn antigen, Nasim spoke on her Thaxtomin A work and Krish presented a poster on his work detailing glycosyl florides as TB inhibitors.

Professor Andreana was recognized on March 16, 2017 by President Dr. Sharon Gaber, Provost Dr. Andrew Hsu and VP for Research Dr. Frank Calzonetti with a President's Award for Excellence in Grantsmanship. Also in attendence were Dean Dr. Karen Bjorkman of NSM and Chair of the Department Dr. Jon Kirchhoff. This award recognizes $1 mil funded research programs and their contributions to the mission of the University.

Professor Andreana will travel to Dallas, TX at the end of January for ACS training in his upcoming role as Chair-elect of the ACS Carbohydrate Division.

Dr. Samir Ghosh leaves the group after 4 years of post-doctoral training to take up a position in his home country of India. We all miss you very much Samir! Good luck in you new life opportunity! See here for more details.

Professor Andreana will attend the 254th ACS National Meeting & Exposition, August 20-24, 2017 in Washington, DC. He will give an invited lecture to discuss advances in PS A1 conjugates for vaccine development.

Professor Andreana will travel to Mount Snow in West Dover, Vermont for the Gordon Research Conference hosted by Prof. Lai-Xi Wang from June 25-30, 2017 where he will give an invited talk.

Professor Andreana will travel to San Francisco on April 2nd, 2017 for the 253rd ACS National Meeting & Exposition to give an invited lecture on behalf of Prof. David Crich, Hudson Awardee of 2017.

Professor Andreana will travel to Scranton, Pennsylvania and visit Wilkes University Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences to give a seminar titled " STn-PS A1 as an Entirely Carbohydrate Immunogen: Synthesis and Immunological Evaluation" on November 29th.

HOT NEWS!!! Dr. Mengchao Shi's manuscript titled "STn-PS A1 as an Entirely Carbohydrate Immunogen: Synthesis and Immunological Evaluation" was just accepted in JACS as an ASAP. Members from the Andreana Group will travel to Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, MI to present their research in the 12th Annual Midwest Carbohydrate and Glycobiology Symposium. This year's event will be host by Prof. Ben M. Swarts.

Congratulations to Dr. Kevin R. Trabbic who has accepted a position at the NIH/NCI in Frederick, MD. Dr. Trabbic will begin his post-doctoral fellowship under the tutelage of Dr. Joseph J. Barchi Jr.

Congratulations to Dr. Mengchao Shi who has accepted a position at the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT. Dr. Shi will begin his post-doctoral fellowship under the tutelage of Dr. Amit Choudhary.

Professor Andreana was unanimously voted Treasurer/Secretary of the United States Advisory Committee of the International Carbohydrate Symposium (USACICS). He takes over from Professor James BeMiller of Purdue who held the position for over 30 years.

Congratulations are in order for Dr. Sharmeen Nishat's successful defense of her Ph.D. dissertation. The title of her dissertation is: "Synthesis of Zwitterionic Polysaccharide (PS A1)-based Vaccines and their Immunological Evaluation".

Congratulations are in order for Gurdat Premnauth's successful defense of his M.S. thesis. The title of his thesis is: "A Chemical Indirect Quantification Method for 5-Hydroxymethylcytosine".
